Portal With RTX – Video Highlights Massive Visual Improvements

Portal with RTX seems to be a huge improvement over the original, judging by a new comparison video shared online.

The new comparison was created by ElAnalistaDeBits, which shows the trailer and footage of the original release side-by-side, highlights how big a difference textures, models and ray tracing can make.

Yesterday’s GTC 2022 NVIDIA keynote saw the unveiling of Portal RTX. The company also revealed the RTX 4090, 4080 and 4090 GPUs. The remaster is free for all original owners. It’s being built using NVIDIA RTX Remix modding platform, which can be used to add raytracing to games.

This RTX upgrade builds upon our work on Quake II/Minecraft, but it is even more special as the tool that was used to create Portal with RTX, will be available for free. It will allow you to give the RTX treatment of other classic games. The NVIDIA Remix modding platform is able to add ray tracing in just a few mouse clicks and allows modders to make ambitious remakes even for games that weren’t previously moddable. To import a game, press a hotkey and use AI to enhance materials and build custom assets with Omniverse. Then export an RTX MOD complete with ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS 3. RTX Remix elevates modding up to a whole other level.

Portal with RTX is coming to Steam in November 2022.
